Hi Zo.

so, as some of you may be aware, i got a job offer with an agency under the u.s. department of defense.
the other day i told a member of my family, and they nearly went apeshit.. my question: what reprecussions could this reasonably have?
does the wts speak of this in any of their publications?
What a cult.
In what other religion would a young man trying to better himself and his family have to even consider this kind of BS?
Take the job. Don't tell anybody anything else and tell them to mind their own business if they try to pry. If you don't take the job, later on down the road you'll see some double standard that will make you kick yourself in the ass for listening to these control freaks.

please don't say, "yes, for obvious reasons".. it's not obvious to me..
Shattered....No. Surprised....Yes.

if you discover, while getting to know a potential partner, that they have cheated on a previous partner........ don't touch them.
run run run.. in my opinion a cheat remains a cheat.
opportunity is the variable.. please discuss..
Past behavior is a good predictor of future behavior.
If this were true in the area of marital fidelity, how would you explain first time cheaters? It comes down to the dynamics of the marriage and personal circumstances. Each person's situation can be very unique.

a little while ago a dear one referred to my trip to "bethel" and discussion with carey barber.
he asked if he could read them.
I just see more guestioning than hostility.
Both AGuest & OTWO seem like great people. OTWO is actually a good man. From what I seen in my short time here is that he gives very solid down to earth counsel & advise. I get the impression that he also has helped many people. AGuest took me some getting use to, but when I read some of her other posts to get an overall view of her I liked her. She is very spiritual and heavy on the gas pedal.(I hope she is still praying for me, because I probably need it- )

sorry, this is a real rant, and i'm beside my self.. here in florida we have had a horrible winter.
now we are spending hours cutting trimming and pulling up dead plants to be picked up by the garbage company on a certain day of the week.
no problem.. this week my neighbors placed their bags 10 feet into the edge of my lawn to be picked up.
My neighbors on one side (widow with two early 20's kids) are starting to get on my nerves.
For some reason they can't stay on the driveway and are driving on the grass in my yard. After a period of hard rain I found a tire rut 4 foot over in my yard. I approached them about it and the daughter said she meant to tell me about it. I told the mom that all the kids had to do was just stay on the driveway. What they and their friends were doing is parking anyway on the driveway and trying to go around people. I got pissed because now I have to fix this shit and put up some poles with christmas bells on them to keep them off the grass.
They also are letting the weeds take over their front yard which looks like crap now. They moved into this upscale neighborhood from the country and the yards here are normally very well kept.
A big German Shepherd lives in the garage and constanty barks all the time.
My internet was kicking out a dozen times a day due to faulty wiring they had, until I told the provider to force them to upgrade. The provider found a faulty wire in one bedroom and offered to upgrade for free and the offer was refused. I think they told the provider that they just wouldn't use that one.
That's my rant.

i just would like to open a little debate here on retirement and jws.
my mother, who is the breadwinner of the family, (dad's quite pathetic) is socking away money like mad for retirement.
i can't blame her, since i know she'll need it, but she's convinced that the end is so near.
All that money I was donating to the Cong & WTS sure did add up 15 yrs later, when it started going into my 401K instead.

Shelby.....one minute I picture you as a benevolent woman wearing guru garb....the next as some hot chick speeding down the highway able to get out of speeding tickets by flashing some clevage.
Looking forward to the rest of the story.

in some other threads there has been talk of wether the organization will go large and mainstream or small and hard-core in the upcoming years.. in the past few years, the sunday public talk has been shortened, the bookstudy eliminated (at least as a seperate meeting night), #2 talks are down to a simple read-through, and a little longer ago pioneering hour requirements have been shortened.
personally i would take these as signs of them going more soft and keeping a larger membership.. if this is indeed the case, what would you suspect of being cut off or changed next?.

Teel.....that's what I'm thinking also. Donations to the WW Ministry work in lieu of FS partiscipation accomplishes several things.
1. Money that you would otherwise spend on gasoline, snacks, lunch or whatever goes to the WTS now instead of a wild goose chase of NAH's.
2. Most people, especially teenagers & kids hate field service and would more than likely stay JW's when they get older.
3. Not going door to door would protect many from ridicule and other things that wear away at faith.
If the JW's could do away with the wacky and extreme beliefs, put back more emphasis on Jesus and being loving Christians, then would end up somewhere between current JW'ism and the Baptists.....they might have something.
